Opening Performances for

"Choreography of Error: Viveca Vázquez' CONDUCT (1984-2013)"

As part of MAC's Live Workshop program I worked as an assistant director for the opening performances that inaugurated the retrospective exhibition "Choreography of Error: Viveca Vázquez' CONDUC" celebrating the 30-years career of renowned Puerto Rican choreographer and dancer Viveca Vázquez at the Puerto Rican Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC). The retrospective included a video and documentary exhibition curated by Nelson Rivera, as well as forums, artistic workshops, and performances of some of Vazquez' dance pieces. After two years researching the conceptual and historical legacy of Vazquez’s work, for the exhibition's closing events Vázquez invited me to present my own solo work and conceptualize a performance piece in response to her work. This petition resulted in the forum entitled CONDUCTAS/CONDUCTS where I invited artists from my generation to speak about how Vazquez influenced their works and a live installation performance entitled “This Is Not A Piece By Viveca Vázquez” where I activated performance objects, costume pieces, and performance strategies from her performance archive to develop an embodied response of my own.
