This course concentrates in the practical and theoretical knowledge produced by and within performance and it approach the theories of performance through the notion of poiesis as a process that activates both ways of doing and embodied knowledge. Folowing a crossdiwciplinary methodology, this course explores the relationship between performance as a theoretical concept and performance as an aesthetic genre and creative practice. The course combines exercises from different disciplines (from performing arts to visual arts) in which performance practices can intervene in our daily practices and cultural repertoires as well as create and reorganize political actions and collective mobilizations.
El curso exploró la performance como concepto teórico y como género artístico en relación a la producción estética. El curso combinó estrategias artísticas diversas provenientes tanto de las artes escénicas y la performance art como también de las artes plásticas y visuales. El curso se sirvió también de las teorías del performance para repensar nociones estéticas en relación a la raza, la clase, el género y la sexualidad.

“The Archive and the Body: Performing the Document” is a practice-based course I offered in 2015, as part of the Women and Gender Studies Program at the University of Puerto Rico. The course investigates the tensions between performance art’s economy of the ephemeral and its historical documentation as a framework for advancing the examination and compilation of Puerto Rican performance history. After attending academic lectures and performance presentations, conducting interviews and archival research each of the students developed performance projects inspired on the documentations, articles, and artistic operations found within precariously preserved archives by Puerto Rican performance artists from the 70s, 80s and 90’s.
Las prácticas del cuerpo relacionadas al teatro, la danza y la performance se han caracterizado por resistir los procesos de materialización y reproducción del arte. Este curso se centra en la compleja relación entre la performance y su documentación historio-gráfica. A través del estudio práctico y teórico El curso investigó distintas operaciones artísticas como posibles metodologías de investigación convirtiendo la obra de arte en medio y soporte de archivos históricos. El binomio artista-investigador ha estableciendo cruces y convergencias entre el cuerpo y el archivo. Este curso se centró en el cuerpo como fuente de escrutinio teórico y cultural proponiendo nuevas maneras de consignar, agrupar y procesar información histórica.
